Prof's Sattineni and Hein are thinking of having a Movie Night so we can watch our two required excellent films set in Australia and New Zealand. Let us know what you think .....when, where, what, who, etc.
When: Looking at our upcoming schedule as far as classes go, I think we should do the Movie Night before we have to start studying heavily for finals. That would most likely mean having the Movie Night before we go on break for Thanksgiving. My schedule is pretty flexible, but what if we did the movie night on Friday, November 18th at 6pm? Homecoming is Saturday, so perhaps people will still be in town for the game and could make it. NOTE: "Whale Rider" lasts 101 minutes and "Australia" lasts 165 minutes. Watching both on the same night would be a marathon, but it could be fun, too. I would not mind watching both - what do y'all think?
Where: B6 in Dudley Commons. There is a DVD player and large projection screen. The seating is great for visibility of the screen and each seat has a fold-down desk that we could use to take notes on for our written papers about the films.
What: The two required films (with a small intermission/break in between)- "Whale Rider" - 101 minutes (at 6pm) "Australia" - 165 minutes (around 8pm) We would need volunteer(s) to provide a copy of each movie.
Who: Any students and professors going "Down Under!" If anyone has parents or family in town for Homecoming that weekend, B6 would have enough room to seat them, too.
In the meeting on Wednesday we talked about having popcorn/snacks/drinks available. If we want to incorporate that into movie night, we should have a sign-up list at the meeting this Wednesday.
Post comments about these logistics so we can make Movie Night a success and work for everyone going on the trip!
Chris - Thanks for your excellent input. I think it might be good if we could spread the movies over a couple of nights, leaving time for some discussion after each. Besides, Australia is almost 3 hrs. long!
For the days that we do not have accommodations (Brisbane, Auckland) will we also need to have all of our belongings out of the dorms/apartments? In other words, will we need to take all of our stuff with us during these free days?
Students - A question for you: What other information do you think would be helpful as we travel abroad Down Under?

ReplyDeleteLooks like you're on your own to view the videos. Take notes. Test upon arrival in Sydney.
ReplyDeleteThere will be tests on the books, in addition to writing the paper? Not complaining, just wondering.

ReplyDeleteTest is primarily on the book with just a few questions on each video. Papers are for the videos only.
ReplyDeletePapers -- Double or single spaced?
ReplyDeleteThanks for asking. Papers should be single space 12 point Arial font.
